The Berber people (10% of the population) hate Gaddafi intensely and wish to see him gone as he has continually tried to eliminate their distinctive culture, language and script and impose an Arab one on them. They welcome the rebellion, but are poor in numbers and badly equipped (although the Nafusa Mountains offer excellent defensive positions).   They are trying to obtain as much autonomy and freedom as possible.  At the moment they are fighting a successful campaign , but are disorganized politically. They would like access a port (for example Zuwarah). .
